[Marriage is not for the lily-livered! We are following a series that encourage and challenge us to dwell and act on The Magnificence of Marriage; admiring the Aquatic Plant Pool at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens , August 2008]

I remember a time when I did not read books.

We moved to a town and one of the first things I asked Mum was to take me to the library.  I remember feeling put off by the almost bare shelves offering dusty, derelict books.

But because she had always read me bedtime stories, and Dad’s library often beckoned (even though his books didn’t have pictures).    Because I was hungry to read and hear stories, whether from travelling family and friends or from the colourful printed pages themselves.  Because like Thomas Jefferson,

I [could not] live without books

…it wasn’t long before I returned to old habits.

[What would you have had me read during this "dry" period?  I was about 12 - 14 years old.
